Morning Read
Thank you Michelle for this mornings read. You did an excellent job and selected a book that peaked my interest. You left me with a very powerful quote which was " Racism either makes you withdraw from yourself, hate yourself, or discover yourself". I plan to hang this up in my classroom because racism is even among my own. I want to use this during the times I have group discussions to help resolve confict. Again thank you!

Hi,
I can't add a new discussion thread, so I am piggy backing here. Sorry. I would like to get the wording for the Doubters and Believers statements that we played around with this morning. "Men are stronger than women"; "Religion has a place in school" ?; "Teachers should have the right to choose to teach homosexuality in their classrooms"; "Minority teachers are better suited to teach minority students"; and the home language/standard English one I just can't get the phrasing right.
Also Sharon said we would get copies of the directions for making the boxes-- which I am really looking forward to- because that was a very humbling experience.
I really did like the Santiago reading this morning too. Thanks, Michelle.
I am glad that both of you enjoyed the piece I shared this morning. I was truly inspired by the home readings and could not let that moment of sharing Santiago's piece pass me by.
Brenda, I am so happy that you found something to use in your classroom. You are exactly right, racism (internalized racism) truly exists within a race. We see it so often in the black community, and I am proud to know that you, and me and everyone else in our cohort will work to open the minds of our children by educating them of the injustices that we sometimes initiate.
This was an awesome day!
